ROW2 Technologies, Inc., the premier software company providing decision support solutions for industrial process chemists, today announced the release of ChemSpire, a revolutionary suite of intelligent software solutions focused on synthetic route selection and design. ChemSpire will launch officially at the 6th International Organic Process Research and Development (OPR&D) conference in Vancouver, Canada on July 9, 2002. Process chemists today are under tremendous pressure from multiple directions to produce high-quality results quickly. They face increasingly aggressive product development timelines even as they are expected to manage costs more closely. However, synthetic route selection, the core task of the process chemist, remains largely an intellectual and intuitive process. Dr. Trevor Laird of Scientific Update, editor of Organic Process Research and Development and a ROW2 advisor, notes "There is a lack of tools to help process chemists do their job efficiently." ChemSpire, he says, "will emphasize a wider range of options and help process chemists make better decisions about which options to explore." Improved decision-making means "the process chemist can get the route right the first time." The core components of ChemSpire include:
"ChemSpire is unique for several reasons," says Ken Bakshi, Chief Executive Officer of ROW2. "It is the first and only software solution that focuses on commercially scalable routes using commercially available ingredients. Our proprietary searches help chemists find and assess options they would not have explored using traditional methods, enhancing chemists’ flexibility and freeing them up to be more creative. At the same time, though, the commercial viability of the compounds in ChemSpire give users confidence their chemistry will scale." ChemSpire offers a key benefit, says Laird. "The time spent on innovation and thinking might increase. Route selection might become more of an intellectual and planning process rather than a "just do it" approach," ultimately improving both the speed and quality of the route selection process.
